In October, New Tales from the Borderlands are Supposed to Be Launched
The sequel to Tales from the Borderlands might be out very soon. According to a listing on Amazon, it will launch around October 21. In contrast, I’d love to see a sequel to the most excellent Telltale Games game. That team isn’t creating New Tales from the Borderlands. It will be handled internally by Borderlands developer Gearbox, just like was initially announced. This makes me worry that the game’s writing may not be up to par.
New Tales from the Borderlands Seemingly Launching in October The Amazon listing contains a complete story synopsis which confirms that New Tales from the Borderlands won’t pick up where the original left off. This is not surprising, considering that Rhys, the original protagonist of Borderlands 3, was already in the game and was doing other things. Instead, players can control three characters, Anu, Octavio and Fran, during “the worst day” of their lives, according to the synopsis.
It sounds a lot different from the original Tales from the Borderlands. This is probably okay. The story was almost complete. My biggest fear is that Gearbox will be handling the game internally. This could lead to a lack of quality New Tales from the Borderlands_’ writing. As someone who has never liked the mainline Borderlands_ meme-y writing.
This was the reason I found the original game refreshing. It maintained the chaotic slapstick of its predecessor, but it had better characters, arcs and choices that ate at my heart. Telltale as we know it now is dead. A new company is taking over the title and working on other projects such as The Wolf Among Us.
It seems plausible that the release date is legitimate. Most placeholder dates are the first or the last day of the month. It is October 21 that New Tales from the Borderlands will launch. It will feel just as good as the original, but it won’t feel the same as the mainline Borderlands games. I believe so. We will have to wait and watch.
