It was not particularly interesting the first time. This is probably just a matter of taste. You still have the opportunity to play as Tostada and other characters. However, just like Guacamelee, the story doesn’t reflect this in any way. Juan’s story is still the main focus of this game. However, it feels like Juan is using other characters as a way to make the beat em ups more Fun. This game’s worst feature is its instant kill nonsense. It’s everywhere.

This game is even more complex than the first. Although I enjoy platforming and challenging platforming, the challenge here feels almost like Cave Story’s “True Ending” section. However, Cave Story was not added to the game until later. Guacamelee 2 doesn’t have that excuse.
Guacamelee does not send you back to the start of a level/dungeon if you die. It’s a bit like Celeste, where you die and quickly respawns. However, the natural instadeath hazards can sometimes send you back just a few screens away. Some of the more difficult sections are very annoying. Guacamelee is a good mix of platforming and beat-up combat, with some bullet-dodging sections. However, sometimes it can be too much to handle platforming, melee combat, and bullet hell at once.
