This is not about the art style, which retains the retro, goofy look, but rather the map density, level of detail, and models. The studio has done an excellent job in faithfully replicating the look of the original game (2006) and improving on what they did two years ago with the first remake. While the environments in the original game were quite good, they are much more diverse and less sterile in 2.

You have access to many abilities from the beginning. However, this only grows as you progress. While not all these abilities will land, they are still delightful to use. The pacing is well-managed, so there’s always something to look forward to. It retains the mid-2000s feel to it. The emphasis is on having Fun, not worrying about the details like which equipment to buy or how to accomplish the mission. This game is very freeform, and I miss it.
It’s why I started gaming. Just like the original remake, many missions vary in quality. There are a few missions that shine. They introduce a new ability, and then there are three to four boring missions. These missions alternate between “go here destroy this, repeat” and the more tedious escort missions. It is the default mission, even though some can alternate between riding and walking the saucer.
