Xbox Discord Integration is a dream for Crossplay Multiplayer
Third-party voice chat is always better than the console’s native system in a crossplay-driven environment. These past weeks I have been playing Overwatch beta. While it would have been possible for me to use my PS5 controller speakers to talk to my friends on other platforms via in-game chat, it was better for us all to hop on Discord and coordinate our play there. Discord and many console manufacturers seem to know this. PlayStation said last year that it is working with Discord to improve communication between its consoles. However, integration allows you to link your accounts and not use voice chat. Xbox now integrates the voice chat feature from the social platform into its systems.
The Xbox Wire blog explains how Discord voice chat integration is available to Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S players. This will allow them to join voice channels accessible to everyone using the Discord App. Discord users can now access Discord from any device, including their phones or computers, without the limitations that native voice chat presents. As I have become more familiar with Discord over the years, I found myself often needing to use my phone or laptop to be able to play games on my couch and keep in touch with my friends. It’s a great way to get rid of all the other devices you have to use to access a superior voice chat feature.

This is a great way to simplify cross-platform voice chat. It also feels more in line with crossplay, becoming an industry-standard in multiplayer games. The Xbox Insiders program is the first to get Discord integration. This allows users to try out new features before the general public, and a more significant launch is expected in the following weeks.
