Minecraft is one of the most popular games in the world. This meant it was bound to encounter NFT shenanigans when people tried to use it to promote blockchain technology. Developer Mojang stated that it doesn’t approve of NFT integrations in Minecraft and is updating its usage guidelines accordingly.

Mojang posted on the official Minecraft website that it wanted Minecraft for all players to have the same content. NFTs create fake scarcity, and the company claims this is against the spirit of the game. After companies began NFT implementation with Minecraft skin packs and world files, there was concern that NFTs or blockchain could be used to create collectible NFTs.

The company also doesn’t want Minecraft to become something Mojang can’t manage and ensure players don’t get ripped off or scammed. Furthermore, since everything about NFTs is made up of values, the company has no desire for any of this nonsense in its game.

Some players have been using NFT and blockchain activity in Minecraft as a platform to develop metaverse projects such as NFTWorlds. They reacted on Discord to the announcement. According to the complete statement, moderators will first talk to Mojang decision-makers, and if they don’t change their minds, they will pivot to a similar engine or another game.
