Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Returns Home with a Short Replacing Idris Elba

Sonic the Hedgehog II will be available in digital stores on May 24. However, even if the live-action sequel has been seen in theaters, the digital edition will include something different and new: an animated short that features Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles.

After the movie’s events, the short Sonic Drone Home will show the blue blur and his new friends. Entertainment Tonight has a clip that shows the trio confronting what appears to be a drone controlled once again by Jim Carrey’s doctor. Robotnik. Robotnik. Idris Elba plays Knuckles, while Colleen O’Shaughnessey plays Tails. But the voices that come out of the mouths of the echidnas and foxes aren’t. The short is a fun look at Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles’ dynamic at the core of the movie that hit theaters last month.

Sonic the Hedgehog II will be released on Blu-ray on August 9. The third movie is in development. Given the second movie’s cliffhanger, I am very excited to see where they go. They are starting to take more into the video game elements absent from the first movie. There’s also a Paramount+ series about Knuckles, with Elba returning to the role.

UpdateNow, after watching the short and looking at the credits, we can confirm that Tails and Knuckles were voiced by Alicyn Parker (Jibanya, Yokai Watch) and Fred Tatasciore (“Soldier:76 in Overwatch and Saren in Mass Effect). Likely, the budget for Sonic Drone Homes was not as significant to allow for its production. This is why the roles were changed. Elba may not have been able to afford the bonus feature. In any case, Elba will be returning to the position in the future, so this seems like a footnote in the live-action version’s story.
