Sea of Thieves was initially scheduled to launch next week. However, Rare announced that it would push it and the Captaincy update to next month on August 4, 2022.

This information is sourced from a blog post on the official game website. Joe Neate, the Executive Producer, explains that the Captaincy update will allow you to customize captain’s quarters on board your ship. The update required extensive background work across the Sea of Thieves game, the UI and services teams. As the July 21 release date approached, it became apparent that the team needed to take more time to finish the update.

Neate wrote, “Running Sea of Thieves is an ongoing live experience where we still learn new things every day but we will always think about what is best for our players and developers alike.” We believe that the decision to change this release is the right one to provide the best experience possible for all of you and to ensure we keep operating with a healthy, sustainable approach.”

Due to the delay in Season Seven, the next major update will be two weeks before A Hunter’s Cry’s limited-time Adventure. It will be available on August 18. Those who keep up with Rare’s pirate games will be busy next month.
