Sega surprised us last week with a Project Diva debut. They also dropped Hatsune Mizu: Project DIVA Mega Mix+ on. It’s the first series to be available on PC. I bought it immediately, much to the dismay of all those around me.

This collection is easily one of the best in the series. It boasts over 170 songs and tons of customization options. You can also get an additional piece pack for $20 if you are interested in the 250-song library.

However, it wouldn’t hurt to pick up the megamix on a PC, but I also have an arcade controller that anyone within a mile can hear. Although my loved ones might not be thrilled to see me pulling this from the closet, I love it. The Steam version works great with my Hori setup. Behold.

The Project Diva series has some seriously cool arcade sets. I once spent a whole trip to Tokyo glued just to their games. Although rhythm games are great on the PlayStation Vita and 3Ds and PlayStation 3/4, I was hooked by those arcade buttons and became a peripheral-obsessed. This era saw me try many different setups, but I eventually gave up Project Diva 2nd on PS3 and didn’t think much about it until megamix on the computer.

Although I was anxious that something might go wrong with the device I used last on PS3, I decided to give it a shot. It’s USB, so you can assume that it will play well. But, Sega and Hori never know what might go wrong. However, this is not the case. My years-old Hori arcade control feels fantastic for those just as frustrated as me trying to emulate that arcade feel. This is a relief as I can’t get that muscle memory with a keyboard or stick on the PS4. It makes a lot of noise, which is a problem.

You can also adjust the Megamix Plus settings by clicking Customization in the main menu. You will see the Control Config option at the bottom. From there, you can adapt arcade controller settings. Some people complain about input lag. There are configuration options available to adjust your setup. My experience with the game has been positive. I am just mad at myself for purchasing this thing, and I have to go back to my Project Diva era. This is probably all I will do for the next few weeks.
