Pokemon Unite Must Chill With the Eeveelutions
Although Pokémon Unite hasn’t been on my radar as much lately, the MOBA is still a regular live service game alongside Overwatch. While there are very few characters I could play that would make me quit being a Pikachu One-Trick, the lack of variety in the game’s roster is disappointing. This is becoming more evident as the game adds another Eevee evolutionary to the mix: Glaceon.
As part of Pokemon Unite’sfirst Anniversary celebration, the ice-type Eevee Evolution is coming. Glaceon is the first of three new Pokemon to be added to the game over the next month. Buzzwole, Tyranitar and Tyranitar will follow. There will be challenges, as well as cosmetic unlocks. If you are still on the Pokemon Unitetrain, you all have plenty to do starting next week, July 21st, when Glaceon takes the anniversary event charge.
Glaceon is the third Eevee Evolution Pokemon Unite has added to its roster. This is a lineup that is lacking in diversity. While there have been many interesting characters, such as Hoopa or Greedents, Glaceon and Tyranitar feel that their roles are well-managed by characters like Duraludon and Alolan Ninetales. While they will most likely have special attacks, Pokemon Unified has shown an inability to be original with its character choices. Leaning into another Eevee evolve shines a spotlight on them.
Sylveon, as well as Espeon, are the two other EeThey’relutions found in Pokemon Unite. They’re pretty different after evolving and have a unique playstyle. Glaceon is likely to feel slightly different from its Eevee brothers. Do we need that many Eeveelutions for the relatively small roster? Is the five other Eevees in the works? We could see an Eevee-only team at the start of a Pokémon Unitematch, which coverIt’sltiple elements at the end. It’s possible. It is possible, but there are more than 900 Pokemon to choose from. It feels like Unitis relying on many of the Glaceon’setypes or, in Glaceon’s Let’s the same evolutionary lines.
Let’s hope the other three characters appearing in September get weirder.
