Kirby’s Dream Buffet Looks like a Smaller, Sweeter Fall Guys
Nintendo has released the announcement trailer for Kirby’s Dream Buffet. This is an exclusive eshop spin-off. The trailer shows four Kirbys of different colors navigating through a series dessert-themed obstacle courses. They compete to collect strawberries, and then use food-based copy abilities in order to push other players offstage. The trailer shows Kirbys being ranked according to their size. This seems to be affected a bit by how many strawberries they have eaten.
This game has been compared to Fall Guys which was released recently on Switch and is now free-to-play. Kirby’s Dream Buffet is only designed to support four players, far fewer than fall guys 60. There’s also no information on how much the game will be priced . Other Kirby games for the Switch, Kirby Fighters and Super Kirby Clash are listed on the US eShop at $19.99 each. It’s unclear if this new game will be available free of charge. These details aside, it’s difficult not to think of Fall guys when you look at the bright, competitive obstacle course.
A few additional details are provided in the eShop listing. The disclaimer that multiplayer will require multiple platforms is indicated by an asterisk after the words “4-player joy”. This disclaimer was also included in the announcement trailer’s fine print. A different listing states that the game can only be played by 1-4 players on one console. This seems inconsistent.
The eShop also mentioned that the strawberries are there to help you grow bigger for the final battle. This is the moment in the trailer where the four Kirbys leave the race to fight in a Kirby-shaped arena. It’s a battle to death. It’s unlikely, but we’ll find out later in the Summer when Kirby’s Dream Buffet will be released.
