Hogwarts Legacy 2’s release date seems much further away than expected.
Hogwarts Legacy 2’s release date may still be several years off given what we know so far about its development.
Hogwarts Legacy has amassed well over $1 billion since launching last February and Nintendo Switch users still have two months until launch! Avalanche Software also recently revealed their next project; though we do not know whether this is Hogwarts Legacy 2 directly (but some reports indicate otherwise).
When is Hogwarts Legacy 2 going to come out?
Given we still are uncertain as to whether Hogwarts Legacy 2 development has even started, predicting when its release could occur is difficult. Based on what is known about its predecessor’s production timelines and development processes, its launch could take as long as 2028.
Hogwarts Legacy was officially unveiled in 2020; development likely started around 2018. The RPG eventually launched five years later on July 12, 2023.
Assuming Hogwarts Legacy 2 takes five more years for development to finish up, that would put its release sometime around 2028 if development on it has already began. Though somewhat later than anticipated, surely its worth it.
One could make an argument that Hogwarts Legacy 2 will come more quickly now that developer Avalanche Software has established itself with an existing base game; Avalanche will likely take more advantage in expanding and using many of the original game’s ideas and systems rather than throwing everything away and starting over from scratch; similar to God Of War Ragnarok or The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom.
However, open-world RPGs take years to produce; and if fans truly desire deeper and more rewarding gameplay experiences as stated, then I think they must expect at least that long a wait before we see their sequel released.
