Bethesda Delays Starfield & Redfall Releases until 2023
Publisher Bethesda made the difficult decision to delay two of its most anticipated titles, Starfield, and Redfall until the first half of 2023.
Bethesda’s official Twitter account announced the delay to the interstellar RPG as well as the co-op FPS.
“The Arkane Austin (Redfall), and Bethesda Game Studios(Starfield) teams have amazing ambitions for the games they create,” stated the announcement. “And we want to make sure that you get the best, most polished versions.”

The announcement thanked the players for their enthusiasm and excitement about both games. It said: “That energy was a huge part of what inspires all of us every day, and drives our excitement for what is being created.”
The team also hinted that fans might still get in-depth gameplay looks at both titles in the future. Finally, they thanked players for their continued support. Arkane Studios Austin released a statement to Redfall in response to the announcement. They stated: “The team requires more time to bring it to life” and added: “Redfall, our most ambitious game yet. We can’t wait until we show it off soon.”
Social media reactions varied. There were many expressions of frustration, along with players saying they are willing to take delays if the final product meets a high standard.
Many others also noted that Xbox’s 2022 first-party games offerings look very slim at the moment due to delays.
Starfield, Bethesda’s first original RPG after 25 years, is still in development. It was trademarked in 2013 by the company.
Both were prominently featured during Xbox’s presentation and Bethesda’s presentation at the E3 2021.
