Baba Is You puzzle game was developed by Arvi Teikari, a Finnish indie developer (also known as Hempel). In the beginning, the player controls Baba, a character. There are a variety of movable word tiles that correspond to different types of obstacles and objects on the field.
These tiles include Baba, the goal flag, the wall and other creatures, linking operators like “is” or “and,” adjective tiles reflecting the properties and objects, such as “you,” which allows the player to control the thing, “push,” to make it moveable, “stop,” to make them impassable and “win” for the goal.
Items can also “sink” in the water to drown in them, and “sink” to cause them to make them allow them to reach the goal, and “win” to set the goal and “win” to achieve the plan, and “win” to the destination, and “win” to ensure they have to reach the item to make them viable words to create and so that they will be portable. Each level’s object is to help the player reach the goal.
Originating as a short demo built for the 2017 Nordic Game Jam,[1] the game was expanded and released on 13 March 2019 for Mobile and Nintendo Switch.
The game centres around manipulating “rules”—represented in the play area by movable tiles with words written on them—to allow the player character, usually the titular Baba, to reach a specified goal.
Also, the player can move through things by removing their “stop” trait. By placing blocks in corners, levels can make it impossible to move them. There are 200 levels in the game.
