343 Industries today announced the roadmap for Halo Infinite. This game was supposed to be released late last year, but it was delayed one year before. This is theoretically because there are some significant delays and missed targets. Some features have been cancelled.

Below is 343’s latest update. The bullet points are:

  • Season 3 (as the thing that follows 1 and 2) was delayed to March 2023
  • An update will be made to the campaign co-op in November
  • Forge mode, replay and other features will be added to the November update.
  • The local campaign co-op was cancelled entirely.

It’s not my intention to jump over 343 because game development can be complicated and Halo Infinite isn’t had the best start in years. Somehow, things went awry, whether it was the pandemic, poor workflow management, or some other reason.

None of this is particularly shocking in a vacuum. Although they did warn that the campaign co-op would be coming later, 11 months seems a lot longer than most people expected. The axing of local co-ops may be understandable, given their low priority for resources. Bonnie Ross, the studio head, did not explicitly state in 2017 that they would not make the same mistake as last year and not include the local co-op.
