This is the in-universe card game that was most popularly played by Yugi Mutou (the series’ original protagonist) and Seto Kaiba (his rival). This simple TCG quickly became a worldwide phenomenon, with children all over the globe pitting Dark Magician against Blue Eyes White Dragon.
The presence of Yu-Gi-Oh! It evolved with the trading cards, but not in the Pokemon manner. In other media. The story of a boy who shares his body with an Ancient Egyptian friend (yes, it really) became one of the most popular gaming franchises.
The series’ Easter eggs can be found in many video games, including Borderlands 2 and Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. Bayonetta2 is also involved in the action, with Loki wielding a magical card and sporting a Millennium Puzzle-esque pendant.
YuGiOh! is the reason this game is so well-known. It’s a great game with many different cards and styles. The vanilla Normal Monster cards include the Blue Eyes White Dragon and Dark Magician and the more complex effects, fusion, link, Xyz, and synchro. These cards can be combined with a wide range of Spell or Trap cards to make it easy to “get your game on”, as a beloved slacker would say.
Over the years, the game has been updated with new mechanics so that OG players may be intimidated. The game is so different that Change of Heart (a card once banned because it is so powerful) can be used in its current format. These evolutions are not to be afraid of.
