The trailer for Sonic Frontiers shows off some amazing looking open-world gameplay
Ah, Sonic. The beloved speedy blue hedgehog is undoubtedly one of the most famous characters in gaming. He was first seen on the SEGA Genesis doing things that Nintendon’t (or Nintendidn’t) His more recent adventures are proof of his immense legacy. Not all of his 3D games are works of art.
All the Sonic games have been either 2D or 3D. However, they all share one thing: they are all linear. Sonic will race down the track at his own pace, collecting rings and stomping on enemies to reach that shiny goal ring. The Sonic Frontiers title has just released its first gameplay trailer. Things look much different.
Yes, Frontiers will be our first open-world Sonic game. According to GameSpot SEGA has called it “open-zone” which is more in line with the franchise’s style. Even though the footage only lasts about 30 seconds, there is still so much to learn. We even get a glimpse at how combat looks, which is quite different from any Sonic game. Can we also talk about the music? My brain wouldn’t have put together sonic and “peaceful piano”, but I like it.
Sonic Frontiers is currently not available. However, it will be released sometime in the next year. We’re looking forward to more not-E3 content soon.
