The Greatest Assassin’s Creed Assassin of All Time

It’s true. Ubisoft’s Assassin Creed series celebrates its 15th anniversary in 2022. We have done some brutal murders during that time. It’s not only the series’ hidden knives that are the ultimate weapon against the Templars but also the avatar who wields these blades – that is, the character we control as a player of these games. A few have been, starting with the 2007 game Altair Ibn–La’Ahad, which stabbed people in the late 12th Century, and ending with Valhalla 2020, which features the Viking protagonist Eivor.

Which Assassin’s creed assassin is the best? We are blessed to have an expert in all things Assassin’s Creed on the GAMINGbible group who has played these games extensively and is familiar with the history of the lesser-known Animus-powered historical hit persons. So we asked them: “Hello, who’s the best?” This is what we were told… but in reverse order.

Evie, one of a group of twins, was seen and played in 2015’s Assassin’s Creed Syndicate. She is part of a pair who are thrown into a Victorian underground of organised crime, controlled, predictably, by the rotten Templars. Evie is a fierce fighter for her cause. She is exceptionally skilled, and the teachings from the Assassin brotherhood run through her veins just like the claret stuff she drinks. Did we mention her cane blade? Evie’s cane sword is simply one of the most excellent weapons-slash-fashion accessories of the AC series.

Evie’s Syndicate DLC, Jack the Ripper, in which she is back as the playable protagonist but is now in her 40s. Edward, the Welsh pirate, was a hit with series fans because of his dubious morals and his sarcastic, if not wholly veiled, sarcasm and general cavalier nature. We met many famous people from the natural history and piracy as we travelled with him through the Caribbean in the early 18th Century, including Calico Jack, Anne Bonny, and Blackbeard. Yet, Black Flag’s Edward leaves the most lasting impression. He is a skilled swordsman and an assured captain of Jackdaw.

This critical moment in the Creed series lore has Edward locating the Templar’s observatory. It’s also where he experiences a gradual cooling off of his recklessness and becomes a caring friend of the Assassins. Bayek, the main protagonist in 2017’s Assassin Creed Origins, is possibly the most dangerous and terrifying Assassin. Bayek doesn’t hesitate to kill anyone who crosses his path, a path that has been littered with bodies since the death of his son Khemu. He is also vulnerable in certain circumstances. For example, when he regrets not completing a mission, he sees a son without a father. Bayek was the first Assassin who had a finger taken by the series’ hidden blade. This act would be essential to pledge loyalty to the Assassin Order, which is a huge deal. Bayek may argue that he didn’t mean to lop off his ring finger the way he did. Also: Pyramids. These can be climbed up like a cat on a tree. This TBF alone makes him one of the most playable characters in the series.

It was inevitable. There is no other Assassin’s Creed assassin with so many stories, character development, and, perhaps, so much style. Eizo was a constant thorn in the Templars’ side. A terror capable of striking anywhere, Eizo is a master at his craft – namely, the stabby-stabby killing of many a baddie. Eizo could free Renaissance-era Rome and Florence from the Templars’ grasp; he always had time for his family (after all other outlets), and he had the most memorable theme music in AC history. Eizo was a star in the Assassin’s Creed II games, Brotherhood and Revelations – these are long-standing fan favourites and this man, this icon, is still the face of AC to many players. Is this the most fantastic game of all time? There is no doubt.

Assassin’s Creed, eh? This series has sold millions of copies. This means that some of you may disagree with what I have written. It’s okay; you can let us know how wrong we are via Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.
