Taika Waititi Forgetting Padme Exists A Crime Against Star Wars
Taika Waititi forgot Padme Amidala existed, despite being adored by many. Although we are used to Taika saying funny things, he is also a hilarious man. However, it seems that this was a genuine mistake made by the director of Thor: Love and Thunder.
The Our Flag means Death actor explained that he had asked Natalie Portman to star in his untitled Star Wars movie. The Oscar winner was surprised to learn that Natalie Portman has been in the sci-fi series. Waititi admitted then that he had “forgotten” about the prequel movies.
While I don’t mean to be negative, many of us would love to forget The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. If you are currently working on a film within the franchise and you have acted in The Mandalorian, it is expected that you will be familiar with the franchise enough to recall three significant movies, especially when Padme Amidala is involved.
The queen-turned senator of Naboo is one of the most memorable characters in the Star Wars prequels. She’s also a unique female character in a universe dominated by males. Like Princess Leia, Padme is a strong, determined, and fiercely-willed leader who does not shy away from conflict. She was a frontline fighter against the Trade Federation, helped to broker peace with the Gungans and then shaped the Republic. (And also accidentally put Palpatine into power, but that is not what we talk about.
Despite his impressive resume, Padme Amidala was still killed by sadness. Sadness! Sadness! You can argue about the sequels (I enjoy The Last Jedi); however, what George Lucas did to Padme was the greatest sin in Star Wars history.
Maybe Padme’s tragic demise is why Mr Waititi forgot about the prequel movies. Although they aren’t the most influential films, it’s still embarrassing to tell Natalie Portman that you forgot about her role in the Galaxy Far, Far Away’s best heroes.
There are always mistakes, but they do happen. I don’t think Taika Waititi is the kind of person who would say incendiary words to stir up controversy. Although he’s a highly talented, skilled, and funny, it is hard to forget about Padme Amidala. We all forget that this ever happened until he makes an incredible Star Wars movie.
