Splatoon, a third-person shooter videogame developed by Nintendo for Wii U, was released in May 2015. It can be played by up to eight players online in four-versus-4 matches. However, the game also has local one-versus-1 multiplayer matches and a single-player campaign. Inklings are creatures that can shapeshift between humanoid or squid forms.
Inklings in humanoid forms can shoot ink of their team’s colour, which can be used for covering the environment or to “splat” enemies or players. Players can transform into squids to swim through ink of their chosen colour. This allows them to hide from the enemy while replenishing their ink supplies. In contrast, the enemy ink, slower to swim through in humanoid forms, can only be swum in squid forms and deals more damage.
