Did you notice how Sony wanted people to know that the PlayStation Stars digital collectibles were not NFTs? It doesn’t seem like Sony is opposed to NFT bullshit with PlayStation Brand, as EVO attendees in Las Vegas are being asked which NFTs they would be interested in buying.

Word of this event has begun to spread via attendees on social media. The PlayStation Quests program was used at Sony events, prompting EVO staff to ask what NFTs they would be interested in buying.

There are many options: Evo-branded; Favorite music artists; Favorite Esports teams/players, PlayStation Items, and Favorite Games Characters. Although the inclusion of musical artists suggests that this is a larger Sony initiative than PlayStation 2, many of these examples are still tied to video games.

There is no way to write in, “NFTs scams; fake scarcity digital goods will dilute my brand to all who aren’t already buying into that shit while it crashes,” so users don’t have any options to tell them they don’t want to buy into that shit.

Fanbyte will have people on the ground at EVO this Saturday, so we’ll keep this story updated if we find out more about the prompt or other NFT chatter on the floor.

EVO, the world-famous fighting game tournament, was purchased by PlayStation last year. The 2022 event will be the first time Sony hosts the event after it was canceled in 2020. It will be held digitally in 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
