Part 1 of The Last of Us: How to Use Unlocked Framerates
The Last of Us Part 1 has one of the best-looking games on the PS5. It features the brutal action of TLOU in a smoother experience than ever. You can squeeze a few extra frames by turning on an unlocked framerate.
To enable unlocked frames in The Last of Us, Part 1, go to Display> General, then toggle Unlocked Framerate.
If an option isn’t available, it means one of two things is happening.
Your display may not support Variable Responsive Rate (VRR) or Higher Frame Rate (HFR). While the former lets you go beyond the framerate set by HZ, the latter prevents screen tearing and matches the game’s refresh rates. These are not very common on mid-range TVs but are becoming more affordable. Check your TV’s settings to make sure it can do either.
Second, your PS5 may not have HFR/VRR enabled. Go to Settings > Screen & Video > Video Output to enable HFR. Go to Settings > Video Output to enable VRR.
You may not have luck with the cable, but it comes with the PS5. Make sure you use an HDMI 2.0 cable for better, more consistent frame support. You may also want to try Performance mode, which will give you smoother gameplay in terms of frame rates.
