Lord of Wolves: Getting a PVP Nuf in Destiny 2 Season 18.
The Lord of Wolves will be getting a nerf in Destiny2 next season. This exotic shotgun, which has been a constant threat to the Crucible since its inception, is renowned for its great damage and long range. The weapon has been subject to multiple balance adjustments. Bungie will once again reduce the exotic in Season 18.
Today’s blog post reveals that the Lord of Wolves will have its ammo count, damage and burst sizes reduced to make it less oppressive. Let’s look at the changes coming to the Lord of Wolves before we get into all the details.
The Release, the Wolves, perk activated; a major frustration with this weapon was the speed at which it could kill you. Even with an over shield, the 10-shot burst could slash through enemies. This was quite a bit of damage that you could do in PVP. It allowed skilled players to shut down opposing Guardians within seconds or so. With the reduction in the number of rounds per burst, accuracy will become more important, especially given the shorter burst delay.
These changes won’t impact the PVE side of this gun. It’s still getting a 20% damage increase across the board. Although I don’t believe this buff will make the gun a top-tier, endgame gun, it can still be useful for casual and solo content. In 2019, Bungie released a joke emblem to remind us when the Lord of Wolves was somehow stronger than it is today. It’s funny to recall how many nerfs Lord of Wolves received, even though it is impossible to get the emblem right now.
This nerf is not the only change. Dead Man’s Tale’s Cranial Spike perk will also be rebalanced. This perk, a PVP all-star weapon that will not buff damage during PVP activities, has been rebalanced starting in Season 18. Cranial Spike will instead trigger an increase in your reload speed, aim assistance, and stack range.
PVE players will receive anti-Champion benefits for many exotic weapons. This will make them more valuable in the current sandbox, and also, various weapon archetypes like Scout Rifles get a PvE buff. Only a few weeks remain until Season 18’s launch, so it will be fascinating to see how these changes affect both PVP and PVE metas.
