GTA was originally scheduled for release on Sega Saturn, Nintendo 64 and PlayStation; however, as with many projects that were cancelled or postponed due to budgetary concerns or development delays, its fate fell solely onto PlayStation.
At the outset of each game, a player is presented with eight characters to select: Travis, Kat Nikki Divine Bubba Troy Kivlov Ulrika are available as choices; character selection will have no bearing on how their main character appears as she wears yellow shirt uniformly regardless. A nickname may also be selected by entering codes. These will enable cheats.

As in real life, anything goes in three cities! Steal, sell or even murder citizens for points you can use as currency! Your ultimate goal in each city should be collecting enough points – in these three you may also run various errands such as package deliveries and special requests to earn enough for money!

Criminal acts allow players to accrue points quickly; for instance, collisions (ten points each) and murdering police officers (1000 each) can help increase your score but may draw more police attention as the severity of each act rises. Stealing cars also provides ways of making money: once stolen vehicles have been sold on local docks they could yield up to many thousands of points!
Players may earn many points, yet still fall short of reaching the required million to complete each level (unless patient). Therefore it’s necessary to undertake missions in order to pass each level; upon successfully completing each mission they receive an enormous number of points – usually up to 50,000!
Your score multiplier will also increase by one upon completion of each mission, as multipliers increase points earned, such as collision pay-outs. A multiplier of 3 would multiply each regular point earned with that multiplier’s number for extra bonus points earned per collision; so instead of receiving 10 normal points per collision you would receive three times 10, or 30 extra points instead! Your multiplier applies equally towards all earned points including “payouts”.
Game Boy Color’s multiplier works differently: each city gives players an opportunity to collect an “X”, adding multiplier counter points automatically when this “X” is collected near a timer; once collected it says “x2”, followed by “x3”, etc. However, these multipliers only affect points earned after receiving it; therefore finding these multipliers may not matter since any points currently held will remain intact regardless.
