Spore lets you create a species. It can be anything from a microscopic organism, through its evolution into an intelligent, social being, and finally its ascension into space. The game changes the perspective and species of the player throughout the game.
There are several “stages” to the game. The outcomes of each phase have an impact on the conditions and levelling faced by the player in the next. Each phase has its own play style and is described by developers as being ten times more difficult than the previous phase. Many phases have optional missions that give the player a bonus such as money or new abilities. If all the creations of a player are destroyed, the species will respawn at the nearest colony or at the phase’s beginning.
