Wings Over Vietnam is a Simulation, Action video game. Despite its “Lite” label, Wings Over Vietnam has a good amount of realism.
1960s bombsights have been simulated instead of modern computer-aided aiming reticules. If the player wants to complete missions, they will need to master dive bombing and level bombing.
The US Air Air Missiles that are used in the game include early versions of AIM-9 Sidewinder missiles, AIM-7 Sparrow missiles, and AIM-4 Falcon missiles. These missiles have been simulated to look as unreliable, as they were, real missiles.
There is still a chance that the missile may miss, even if you have a “good target lock”. Like the actual accounts of the war, most dogfights were close affairs between the lighter less agile US Aircraft and the more agile MiGs.
Map of Vietnam was scaled back to reduce the time it takes for a player to reach a goal. Also, air-to-air fuelling has not been included. The player is in charge of a group of computer-controlled planes that fly toward specific target information.
The player can give commands to this flight, such as attacking other planes or targets on the ground, flying home when they’re damaged, or jettisoning their drop tanks.
