Sonic Colors: Ultimate is a high-speed adventure like no other! Join Sonic and enjoy the thrill of a lifetime. Dr. Eggman, an evil alien who has created a huge interstellar amusement center brimming with amazing rides and attractions, is now controlling it with “Wisps”. You want to capture tiles and gather resources to build more walkers or your ‘infantry unit’; cannons, one-off ranged attacks; expensive carriers one-off abilities that allow you to move one tile of infantry anywhere on the board. You will find that the ground around your board becomes weaker by harvesting resources. This creates an exciting dynamic in which you can conquer the land as well as break it. You can even ‘aggressively’ harvest tiles to destroy your opponent’s turf and cut off chokepoints… and still make some money. Score!

This is where the game can become repetitive. Even the most expansive levels can quickly become isolated islands, where players rush to obtain aircraft. It doesn’t seem like there is a way to choose between cash grabs or long-term flow.

It’s easier to just gut the place, make obscenities at your neighbors, and wait for the game to give you enough resources to attack them. It retains the strategy dance of games like Chess, where each player carefully positions and waits for the other to make a mistake or reveal a weakness. Although execution may be a little lacking, there is still enough tactical depth and the campaign is enjoyable. The graphics and design are delightful, and the fun (almost 20-s-esque!) soundtrack adds an inviting, playful, and friendly vibe to the game.
