My Time at Sandrock Replicates Portia’s Steam Success
Pathea Games, a developer, has officially made My Time At Portia the My Time. Pathea’s newest game, My Time at Sandrock, has just been released to early access. It’s already breaking Portia’s record on Steam.
My Time At Sandrock launched via Steam and Epic Games just days ago. However, it already surpasses the Portia player count records. Sandrock reached 21,778 concurrent users this morning at its peak. Steam DB’s data shows a significant increase from Portia’s all-time concurrent peak of 13,299 players three years ago. We aren’t talking left-field surprises such as V Rising, but that’s not something to ignore. Sandrock has been a success on Steam, but Epic players have not been included in the equation. It’s only been less than 48 hours since it was launched.
Pathea’s first hit with My Time at Portia puts you in the traditional genre role of a farmer tasked with rebuilding the family business. Portia has a lot more to offer than the conventional farm scenario. However, Sandrock will allow you to move away from those same old scenarios. This My Time game has you as a builder in a desert town struggling to survive. You’ll need to socialize, rebuild, and gather resources. Pathea’s series is a bit more action-adventure-heavy, with more RPG elements via player-tailored builds and a greater emphasis on exploration.
Pathea states that My Time At Portia has sold more than 2.3 million copies worldwide since its inception four years ago. This suggests that Sandrock is an obvious choice. But, even though I am a life simulator fan and enjoy reliving mundane tasks through them, their popularity continues to amaze and fascinate me. Six years after its launch, beloved indies such as Stardew Valley continue to pop up, and the developer recently stated that sales of the game are higher than ever.
The formula works regardless of the reason. I am still captivated by My Time. Pathea has not yet revealed a date for Sandrock’s 1.0 launch but promises regular content updates via voice-acting, additional NPC dialogue, and a new multiplayer storyline. After spending more time than I can admit in Portia, I feel I should move to Sandrock and spend more time there, eventhough it’ss still early access.
